What we look for

The trainers who do well here share four traits.

We hire experts first, presenters second — but both matter. If the list below describes how you already work, we’d like to hear from you.

Deep, current expertise

You hold senior-level credentials or equivalent production experience in your domain — Cisco, Microsoft, AWS, security, Linux, Kubernetes, or another core IT discipline our learners actually deploy.

A teaching instinct

You can take a complex topic and break it into a concept, a demo, and a reason it matters. Prior teaching, conference speaking, internal enablement, or video work is a strong signal.

Comfort on camera

Our trainers present on a whiteboard or screen-share for short, focused Nugget videos. You don't need a TV background — clear delivery and a quiet space matter more than polish.

Ownership of your craft

Trainers scope their own course outlines, choose their angle, and refresh content as vendors ship updates. We support you with editors, producers, and a content team — but the voice is yours.

How it works

From application to first Nugget.

Our process is deliberate so we and the applicant both have real evidence before signing a course agreement. Most applicants move through it in four to eight weeks.

  1. Apply

Send a short note about your background and the topics you want to teach. A demo reel or sample whiteboard explainer helps but isn't required.

  2. Topic conversation

We talk through where your expertise fits in the catalog, what gap it fills, and the audience you'd be reaching. Expect a 30–45 minute conversation with our content team.

  3. Pilot Nugget

You record a single short Nugget against a brief we co-write together. Our producers handle audio, editing, and post — you focus on the teaching.

  4. Course agreement

If the pilot lands, we move to a full trainer agreement (W2 or contractor depending on the engagement) and start scoping your first full course.

Frequently asked

Common questions from prospective trainers.

  • Is this a full-time role or contract work?

Both paths exist. We hire full-time U.S.-based trainers with healthcare, vision, dental, 401K match, and bonuses, and we also engage contractors for narrower or shorter-form topics. We can talk about the right fit during the topic conversation.

  • Do I need professional studio equipment?

No. We provide guidance on a workable home setup and our production team handles editing, color, and audio cleanup. A quiet space and a decent USB microphone are enough to start.

  • Who owns the courses I create?

CBT Nuggets owns the published courses, and you retain credit as the trainer of record across our platform, marketing, and the trainer roster on our site. The trainer agreement spells this out plainly.

  • Can I apply from outside the U.S.?

We hire U.S.-based trainers for full-time roles because of how benefits and payroll are structured. International trainers can engage as contractors — applications from outside the U.S. are welcome.
