Using Virtual Labs

CBT Nuggets Virtual Labs: Your Hands-On Learning Environment

CBT Nuggets Virtual Labs provide a crucial supplement to your regular training. They offer hands-on experience in a virtual environment, allowing you to apply what you've learned in real-world scenarios, making your training more effective and practical.

What are Virtual Labs?

Virtual labs are interactive, cloud-based environments where you can practice IT skills without needing expensive equipment or risking production systems. They are designed to give you a safe sandbox to experiment, make mistakes, and learn how to fix them.

Types of Virtual Labs

CBT Nuggets offers different types of virtual labs, each with unique features and access periods:

  • Skillable Labs:
    • Access Period: Skillable labs have an access period of 2 hours, with an option to extend for 1 additional hour.
    • How to Identify: Look for "Labs by Skillable" wording on the launch panel.
    • Important Note: These labs may require enabling third-party cookies.
    • View the Connectivity Requirements for Skillable virtual labs.
    • If you see an Access Denied error, please check that you have third-party cookies enabled
  • Adept Labs:
    • Access Period: Adept Labs typically have an 8-hour access window. This time can be reset upon request, providing ample time to complete lab tasks.
    • How to Identify: Adept labs are created and designed by the CBT Nuggets Adept team and are hosted through Azure Bastion. You can identify them by the launch panel, which displays the lab's schematics (e.g., "N31-KBv3 CCNA Lab," "8vCPUs, 32GB RAM, 256GB, Premium SSD").
  • Playground Labs:
    • Access Period: Playground labs offer an 8-hour access window, which can be extended.
    • How to Identify: These labs will clearly state "Playground Lab" within their launch window.
    • Important note: The Playground Labs are currently offered at no cost. However, access to the Playground Labs will be an add-on in the future. These labs are not tied to any particular course or lesson, they are sandbox environments for learners to explore.

Accessing Virtual Labs

  • Launch from a Course Page: If a course includes Virtual Labs, you can launch them directly from the course page. When you reach a point in the Skill that contains a virtual lab, you will find the launch link.
